Visas, Passports and other Consular Matters

South African Temporary Passports will no longer be issued effective 1st September 2014 in accordance with recent directives. The High Commission and the Consulate General are no longer accepting applications for Temporary Passports.

Demarcation of areas for Consular Services:

South African Consulate-General in Toronto:
The Consul: Immigration will handle all Immigration and Civic matters (Passports, Visas, Births, etc.) and the Consul: Administration will handle all Consular and Agency Services for the following provinces:

  • Ontario(excluding The Greater Ottawa Area)
  • Quebec
  • Manitoba
  • Saskatchewan
  • Alberta
  • British Columbia
  • Yukon
  • Northwest Territories.

South African High Commission in Ottawa:
The Attache: Administration and Consular will handle all Immigration and Civic matters (Passports, Births, etc.) and all Consular and Agency Services for the following provinces:

Payment: Payment options are either money order or certified cheque (cheque payable to South African High Commission OR South African Consulate General depending on where you submit your visa application) for the exact amount of the visa fee.

  • The Greater Ottawa Area
  • Nunavut
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • New Brunswick
  • Nova Scotia
  • Prince Edward Island.

Please note:

The South African Consulate General in Toronto will assist the public (walk-ins) from Monday to Thursday (08:30 - 12:30) but the office will be closed to the public on Fridays. However, phone calls will still be attended to on Fridays until 16:30.

Luggage will not be allowed in and around the Consulate premises.

No photocopying services will be provided. Applicants to bring their own copies as well as original documents. The South African High Commission in Ottawa and the South African Consulate General in Toronto will only assist in certifying the documents.

Fees have to be paid in Canadian Dollars only by money order or certified cheque made payable to the South African High Commission in Ottawa or South African Consulate General in Toronto, depending on your Consular jurisdiction.

Personal cheques or payments in any other foreign currency will be returned.
