INTERNATIONAL NELSON MANDELA DAY 2025

The Mission was warmly received by Ms. Nadia Thelusmon, Program Coordinator, and Rev. Joseph Kiirya, who provided a guided tour of the Step Stone facility.

In support of the initiative, Mission officials volunteered by helping to clean the garage and yard of the shelter.
Following the volunteer activities, participants were invited for a complimentary lunch at Nando’s, which was also hosting its own Mandela Day event. As part of their initiative, Nando’s encouraged customers to donate canned food items in exchange for a free meal, with all donations going to the local food bank.

The United Nations officially declared 18 July as International Nelson Mandela Day in November 2009, in recognition of Mandela’s enduring legacy. The day commemorates his 67 years of service devoted to justice, equality, and the advancement of human rights.
