Authentication / Legalization of Documents:
When a document is required for legal use in the Republic of South Africa, the following procedure should be followed to have it authenticated by any of our offices in Ottawa or Toronto

  • If the person signing the documents wishes his/her signature to be witnessed by an official of this Mission, he/she must be able to show identification. We require two (2) original forms of identification that shows a photograph and signature of the person signing the documents (passport, driver’s license, resident card, etc.) as proof of identity — with photocopies for our records.

For Alberta:

1)Your documents can be signed before a Commissioner of Oaths/Notary Public in the city where you are resident.

2) Once that has been completed your documents are to be sent for document authentication purposes to:

3) Once the documents have been returned to you they should be sent to the South African Consulate General in Toronto (address below) for the South African Consulate General Certificate of Authentication.

Please include a prepaid self addressed envelope in order that we may return your documents to you.
