WOMEN HEADS OF DIPLOMATIC MISSIONS

The Women Heads of Diplomatic Missions (WHDMO) is an association of women ambassadors accredited to Canada. The objective of the association is to:

  • Foster communication, understanding and interaction within the group of women Heads of Diplomatic Missions;
  • Facilitate and strengthen linkages between members of WHDMO and leaders in all sectors of the Canadian Society ;and
  • Promote collaboration on issues of common concern, especially those affecting women

South Africa is the current chair of WHDMO

WHDMO Round Table Panel Discussion 2019

Following the Women Foreign Ministers Meeting which was held in September 2018 at Montreal, the Women Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Ottawa (WHDMO) in conjunction with the Women Peace and Security branch, Global Affairs Canada organised a round table panel discussion on Women’s political participation and leadership in fragile and conflict settings. The round table discussion took place in June 2019 and focused on issues ranging from practical opportunities to reinforce the work of women human right defenders; women engaged in peace processes and peacemaking; women mediators, etc.

WHDMO Bring a Child to Work Day 2019

The South African High Commission participated with the Women Heads of Mission in Ottawa and Global Affairs Canada in the “Take a Child to Work” event on 6 November 2019. The Heads of Mission hosted students from the Lisgar Collegiate Institute.
