“We were saddened when we heard that Brian Mulroney had passed away. Canada has lost an outstanding leader, and South Africa has lost a special friend.
Mr Mulroney contributed enormously to the global anti-apartheid movement, winning both the admiration and respect of Nelson Mandela. He understood justice to be indivisible and promoted solidarity as of fundamental importance to any struggle for justice.
We were honoured to meet him when he visited our Centre of Memory some years ago. We will not forget his support for Madiba during the last decade of his incarceration in apartheid prisons. We join with many South Africans saying thank you and hamba kahle to one who was there for us in our darkest hour.”
